A deadly virus of unknown origin has decimated Moscow. Sergey, along with his girlfriend and their autistic son are joined by his exwife, their son and several fellows to escape the quarantine zone lest they suffer a slow and painful death. Somewhere far away, on a desert island in Karelia, there is a cabin- their only chance to start all over again. But the journey will not be an easy one as the deadly virus and interpersonal conflict threaten to pull the group apart.

And so begins the greatest conflict yet, entangling yakuza, mafia, street gangs, the police, and even the state itself—

Higurashi Outbreak is set in the same Hinamizawa village of the previous stories. The village has been completely sealed off due to a mysterious virus in 1983, and Keiichi Maebara and Rena Ryūgū deal with the outbreak. But this time, they don't know if its Oyashiro-sama's curse or a conspiracy. It is also shown that Rika might be infected by the virus. Not much is known about the story yet, but in an interview the makers of the OVA revealed that the ending will differ from the original story.

Places which they enjoyed moments ago became remnants of the past while other shops appear to be timeless. In this magical tale which is also a social commentary, the two children seek to understand the world and themselves in 2013 through their innocent minds, and perhaps learn the first lesson on the passage of time.
